Who Am I

Good day to all the Harlan County Kentucky Hightower's from all over the country. First of all, who am I. My name is Davie R. Hightower from Taylor Michigan. I was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I have five sisters and two brothers; Jacky Horvath Ocala Florida, Myrtle (Pat) Jarosz Hudson Michigan, Nyoka Grant Americus Georgia, Roger Hightower Green Lake Michigan, Donnie Hightower Melvindale Michigan, Gerry Decker Southgate Michigan and Beyaunna (Bea) Bozarth Gilbertsville Kentucky. We are part of Annanias Nice  Hightower's line from Ages Kentucky, Harlan County.

 Nice Hightower

Nice Hightower was the seed of all the Harlan County Hightowers. Nice was married three times. His first wife was Susan Craig, their children were, Barstel, Robert, Lela and Mattie. His second wife was, Lassie Bowers, their child was, Virgil Lee Hightower. His third wife was Lydia Belle Hubbard, their child was John Henry Hightower.. Nice was born in Cocke Co. Tn. Nice's brothers and sisters were; William, Tipton, Sarah Jane, John Edward, Leander, Polly, Susan, Margaret, Edith Ada, Martha, and Rebecca..Nice died of a Chronic Heart Attack. See death certificate.HIGHTOWER, Nice, age 84 yrs., Vol. 37, Cert #18017, lived and died in Harlan Co., KYdied on April 26, 1942

He married (1) Susan Craig, married 13 Jun 1878 in Anderson Co, TN, b. 1860, d. 30Apr 1893. He married (2) Lassie Bowers, married 18 Nov 1898 in Anderson Co, TN. He married (3) Lydia Belle Hubbard, married 1899/1900, b. 15 Sep 1885 in Lily, Laurel County, KY, d. 6 Jun 1929 in Harlan Co, Ky, buried in Ages Cemetery, Harlan Co, KY.Lydia: Died of a Ruptured Appendix. i. Barksdale "Barstel" Hightower b. May 1879. d, 1914 possably of TB.

ii. Robert Lee "Bob" Hightower b. 11 Mar 1884.

iii. Lela Hightower b. 9 Jul 1882.

iv. Mattie Hightower b. 24 Oct 1889.

Children by Lydia Belle Hubbard:

Dad

Our father was Theodore Hightower. Dad was born in Dunraven Kentucky, Perry County on Feb 29, 1908 leap year and died on April 29, 1992 (my birth day) in Dearborn, Michigan Wayne County. His father was Arthur Hodge, he died before dads birth. Marie (Hightower) Henegar told me that dads mother (Lela) made Arthur his lunch for work one morning and he left for the mines. Co-workers saw him go into the mines but he never came out, as the story goes. We don't know anything else about dads father.

Dads mother was Lela Hightower born on July 9, 1882 in Coal Creek, Tn. and died December 2, 1951 shee is burried in Mchargue Cemetery in Lily, Kentucky Laurel County. she was the daughter of Annanias Nice Hightower and  Susan Craig. Dad was born with a cleft pallet and dads mother never knew how to take care of dads special feeding needs so she gave him up to the Kentucky Child Services orphanage.(thodge1910 census) two years old. Lela was married three times, Brammer, Hodge and Hyde. There is a Poston or Postum that I herd of but can't find anything on the name..

When Dads Grandparents (Annanias and Lydia Bell  Hubbard Hightower) found out where he was they went and got him. His grandparents gave him their last name of Hightower. Lydia Bell Hubbard Hightower was Annanias's third wife.
